Flowmasters records partners with Lion of Zion Ent. and GospelReggae.com to release J Prince’s solo debut “Renaissance.” 

In a market over-saturated with releases, it’s often hard to sift through all the songs and find the gems. And given this tumultuous climate of the music industry, it’s even harder to break a new artist. J Prince is one artist that you can’t afford to overlook!

When I first heard clips from J Prince’s freshman release, I was sitting on a train riding through Germany with Sherwin Gardner. While Sherwin may have produced a dozen albums last year, this is the one that he was most proud of–and rightly so.

It is transcendent

At first listen, I was blown away by the project. The production was excellent (as I’ve grown to expect from Sherwin and his Flowmasters crew). But beyond that, something was different… At first, I couldn’t put my finger on it and then all of a sudden it hit me–It is transcendent. This guy transcends boundaries and has created a distinct project that can reach a multitude with an authority and passion that can only be associated with the Spirit of God.

From the edgy “With God” to the passionate “Nah Turn Back” and the worshipful “Love of God”, this diverse album is truly all things to all men. When it comes to songwriting and production, it can rival anything in the mainstream–especially some of the dance anthems like “Need You,” and the hardcoredancehall slams like “Nah Beg.” It’s also replete with a few songs that are sure to be hits come carnival season. Overall, “Renaissance” is well-rounded, yet definitive.

The bright future of gospel reggae

Not since Sherwin himself came on the scene with “Leaning” years ago has there been an artist that can ride soca, dancehall, roots, culture, dance, hip-hop and praise with such ease–all while maintaining his own unique style and sound. His vocal texture is rich, his delivery is fiercely authoritative and his message is overt and uncompromising. Listen to me carefully when I say that this guy a shining example of the bright future of gospel reggae!

The New Voice of Trinidad and Tobago Singing Competition
Trinidad & Tobago June 1, 2011— Flow Masters Records, together with Jire Productions, Lion of Judah Entertainment, JLab Pro, Positive Music Agency, Cherishedflight Communications, Charles Parris Studios, Shade Productions and other major partners and sponsors, to provide a new generation of Gospel singers a platform to showcase their talent on the singing competition The New Voice of Trinidad and Tobago. Unlike other singing contests, The New Voice of Trinidad and Tobago is a Christian competition created to establish new voices who have a heart for God and are willing to spread the Gospel globally.

The New Voice of Trinidad and Tobago, which will air live on broadcast television, will feature 16 contestants who will have the opportunity to be coached by popular Gospel artists in preparation for live battle round performances. Each week, a panel of three judges, including one celebrity artist, will critique the contestant’s vocal performances and vote for the contender they believe deserves to move to the next round. After a series of challenges, tasks, battle and elimination rounds, a winner will be chosen.

The grand prize winner of The New Voice of Trinidad and Tobago will receive one album recording deal with award-winning record label Flow Masters Records, one top-quality music video produced by one of Trinidad and Tobago’s leading video producers, album distribution by Lion of Zion Entertainment, artwork for one digital album, and $5000TT.

Providing a platform to usher in a new generation of Gospel talent is only one of the goals of The New Voice of Trinidad and Tobago. Where this groundbreaking competition differs from others is that it will also serve as a bridge, linking industry insiders with undiscovered talent. WHAT wonderful thoughts these words arouse! God for us! God on our side! It means almighty wisdom enlisted in our interest, almighty power to be exerted on our behalf, almighty love and infinite goodness watching over us and caring for and helping us. What immeasurable lengths and breadths, heights and depths of infinite grace are here so forcibly and so concisely set before the mind!

But we notice a limitation: The Apostle’s suggestion is not that God is for every one, but for “us.” To whom does he refer by this word “us?” Is it possible that divine love and energy, wisdom and power are not being exerted on behalf of the world, but only on behalf of the Church in this present time?

Our goal is “Reaching the World through World Music.” In this global community we live in, God is using people from many nations to spread His message of hope and Salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. I believe God wants us to have a global perspective regarding Christianity. “Reaching the World through World Music” means broadening the traditionally narrow scope of Christian music to fit all races and music from every nation. In this industry, music has typically been recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and sent off to the rest of the world telling them this is what Christian music sounds like. When are we going to let these countries record their indigenous music and send it to us further broadening our perspective of what God is doing in the rest of the world? That question has become our goal. It’s one of the many reasons why I play, perform and produce Christian reggae with the band Christafari. I hope that our message can edify the Christians and evangelize the world over the infectious reggae rhythms of Jamaica and the indigenous music of other countries.
